Who is a Guru?

My Guru Nisargadatta Maharaj
My Guru Nisargadatta Maharaj

We live in our minds, identified with our minds.

Guru meets us in the mind and guides us toward a door called Brahman, light, love, intelligence, bliss, Reality.

Guru describes reality and we shift our focus to where that reality is shining into our minds. It is also shining into the world, as the world, projecting the world.

When we find that doorway in the mind, called Brahman, the witness, or the soul, merges into it.

Once you have found the door of Brahman in your mind, the one who guided you to it is forever your Guru.  Your Guru is the way your mind always remembers the door.

Even having found the door, we still have some work to do.  The house of our minds is still filled with painful memories that clutter the house.  We did not know that we have been living in a small tidy area in a house that was cluttered with memories.

Therefore, having found the door, if there is clutter, the Guru guides the awareness to tidy the house.  One experiences what could be called a lifetime of karma.  During this time, if possible, it is best in your mind to stay close to the Guru who showed you Reality.  Cleaning the clutter of a lifetime can otherwise be painful.

But eventually, the house is clean and now the place we live in the house of the mind is no longer a small tidy area.  We can now enjoy all of the house.  The house of the mind, free of clutter, becomes joyful, unobstructed and full of light.

Always practice devotion to your Guru. It is remembering the way in your mind to the doorway of reality.

The one who led me to my contentment is Guru Nisargadatta Maharaj.

Jai Guru, Victory to Life.
